Education in Serdivan

Education is a continuing process from cradle to grave. The future well being of our community depends on our commitment to and investment in education.

In the whole of Sakarya but especially in Serdivan, education is a high priority which  needs constant attention.At the present time Sakarya achieves below average results in national exams such as ÖSS and SBS. This situation has a negative impact on manpower,the degree of urbanization and even social development of the city.

Nationwide  there are 73,696 schools and the number of  teachers working in these schools is 731,361.The number of students receiving education is 16,025,732. The number of classrooms used is 504,560. According to these statistics, there are approximately 22 students per teacher and 32 students per class.

In Sakarya in 2006- 2007 state funded schools numbered  456, students 173,062, teachers 7,584, and classrooms 5.423. In 2007-2008, the number of schools increased to 465 while that of students dropped to 166,486. Teachers numbered 7621 and classrooms 5583. In 2008-2009, the number of schools decreased to 462 whereas the number of students increased to 167,017.The number of teachers increased to 7886 and classrooms to 5594.On average there were 88 students per classroom and 29.8 students per teacher.

        In the private sector in 2006-2007 schools numbered 18, students 3.595, teachers 387, classrooms 250. In 2007-2008, the number of schools rose to 19, the number of students increased to 3,963 and the number of teachers rose to 421. The number of  classrooms was 251 and there were 45 students per class and 32 students per teacher. In 2008-2009, the number of schools remained the same meanwhile the number of students rose to 4.093. The teachers numbered 435, classrooms 253 and students per class rose to 46. The number of  students per teacher remained the  same .

        As can be seen from the numbers in the chart below, the number of students per teacher and per class in Sakarya is less than the average in Turkey. Nationwide we have 22 students per teacher but in Sakarya the number is 21. The situation is the same for the number of students per class nationwide, while the number of students per class is 32, in Sakarya this amount is less.

There are a variety of educational institutions in the state which include 7 high schools; 2 of which are technical, 2 public, 2 private and 1 private science high school. The State has 23 elementary schools, one kindergarten, one private elementary school and 2 private kindergarten. Also there are 16 dormitories providing  accommodation for university students.

In 2008, the number of teachers  recorded is 549, the number of classrooms is 371 and the number of students is 12,092. Accordingly, the number of students per teacher is 22, and per class 32. The data show that in terms of physical capacity  in education, Serdivan is below the average of  Sakarya.

In addition, in the state there are 1,062 preschool education students. There are also 484 elementary school students and 219 private training students who benefit from transportation facilities.

17.9% of the population of Serdivan are students..

In the schools in Serdivan, there are 540 teachers; ten of whom are preschool teachers, 159  class teachers, 234 subject teachers, 24 are special trainers and 19 are private teachers. The number of  master trainers working in technical schools is 35, the number of administrators is 10, the number of auxilary staff is 25. Also 19 temporary staff and 2 nurse are employed in schools in Serdivan.

        In the state boundaries there are technology classes in 10 elementary schools, 3 high schools and in the Science and Art Center. No other schools  have technology classes.
